The vitality of their built environments reflects the dynamic interplay between physical spaces and cultural values, encompassing multidimensional influences spanning social, economic, transportation, and cultural dimensions. This vitality also represents a key pathway for advancing sustainable urban development. Taking 22 historic buildings on Wenming street in Kunming as a case study, this paper employs the Entropy Weighting-TOPSIS method based on multi-source data. It constructs an environmental vitality evaluation system for historic buildings by selecting 11 vitality factors across four dimensions: economic function, social activity, cultural resources, and transportation efficiency. Findings reveal that transportation efficiency and cultural resources significantly synergize to influence the comprehensive vitality of historic buildings in this area. Economic function remains relatively weak overall, while social activity exhibits localized strengths but lacks systemic coherence. Based on the evaluation results, the study further proposes seven categories of architectural classification standards, identifies four major risk factors, and offers targeted revitalization strategies, including “cultural and creative business”, “cultural education”, “community leisure”, and “green ecological” types. These strategies aim to provide references for the preventive conservation, sustainable development, and policy formulation of historic buildings.
