晋蒙交界明长城沿线堡寨式聚落是地域文化的重要载体，经过几百年变迁现已成为普通聚落。本文选取明长城沿线老牛湾堡至铁山堡段军堡为研究对象，结合相关资料和实地调研，初步探析堡寨演变的三种类型：聚落规模不变在原址上进行人口繁衍，聚落在原址边界扩张，聚落废为空城或另建新址，提出堡寨演变的原因。 - 关键词：
明长城；军事聚落；空间演变；历史沿革； - Abstract: Fort-type settlements along the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty at the border of Shanxi and Inner Mongolia are important carriers of regional culture and have become common settlements through a few hundred years of change. This paper selects the military fortress from Old Cow Bay Fortress to Tieshan Fortress along the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty as the research object, combines with relevant information and field research, conducts a preliminary exploration and analysis on three types of evolution of fortresses that include unchanged scale of settlements and population reproduction in original sites, the expansion of settlements at the border of original sites as well as the change of settlements into empty cities or the reconstruction of new sites, and puts forward reasons for the evolution of fortresses.
