在西方，公共空间出现以来便经历着不断的变化。早期西方公共空间主要作为特权阶级
开展“政治性”活动的场所。到了工业时代初期，传统意义上的“公共领域”开始形成。
而 1970年代末以来，由于新自由主义和资本全球化的兴起，政府在公共空间生产和管理过程中的作用逐渐弱化。这些趋势造成了西方城市公共空间公共性特征的变化。文章讨论西方城市公共空间公共性特征的发展和转变，在此基础上透过大卫·哈维构建的“空间修复”理论视角，分析资本在城市空间中的扩张和固定过程对当代西方城市公共空间所产生的影响，并归纳出当代西方公共空间公共性所表现出的模糊性、复杂性和相对性特征，为我国转型期的公共空间治理和理论研究提供借鉴和启示。 - 关键词：
公共空间；公共性特征；空间修复；大卫·哈维； - Abstract: Public space has been developing and changing since it comes into existence in the West. In its early stage, public space was mainly used as a place for the privileged few to carry out political activities. When it comes to the industrial age, public space begins to play the role as the public sphere. However, since the end of the 1970s, due to the rise of neoliberalism and capitalist globalisation, governments in Western countries gradually retreat from the provision and management of public space. Those trends collaboratively lead to remarkable changes in the publicness of public space. Against this backdrop, this paper discusses the development and transformation of the publicness of public space in the West. Drawing on David Harvey’s analytical lens of “spatial fix”, the paper examines how the capitalist urban process affects the publicness of public space and identifies three key features of publicness of public space in contemporary Western cities, namely: ambiguity, complexity and relativity. In so doing, the paper intends to provide references and revelations for the governance and theoretical research of urban public space in China.
